Toys and Games for your Puppy or Dog

Our favorite edible chews for our dogs: Pork Chomps rolls or pig ears, Smart Bones, Kirkland's dental chews, frozen carrots (great for teething puppies), and N-Bone puppy teething sticks or rings.

Favorite Toys: Kongs extreme (the black Kongs are stronger then the red), Benebones, elk and deer antlers, Squishy Face flirt pole, bite tugs for playing tug, and ChuckIt balls for fetch.

There are many different toys out there for puppies and dogs of all different sizes and "chew strength" levels. I can't cover all of them but here are my favorite!

  • West Paw Designs

  • ChuckIt - the chuckit balls are much safer for your dog's dental health than tennis balls. Tennis balls, especially with dogs who LOVE them, can wear down your dog's teeth over time due to their abrasive felt. They are also much easier for a dog to chew up than a chuckit ball. These go on sale frequently on amazon and chewy!

  • Kong

  • Nylabone

  • Benebone

  • Elk & Deer antlers - I typically always go for the larger ones as they last much longer and it is much safer to get an antler that is huge than one too small for your dog.

  • Tug toys - these I reserve for when I am playing with my dogs and are not left out for them to play with. Most are purchased through working dog sites but you can find a few on amazon. Try to avoid rope style tug toys.

  • Flirt Poles - an amazing way to entertain your dog without having to do as much work yourself! There is safety risk with these, please always keep the tug close to the ground. If you fling the tug end up into the air your dog will jump to chase it and can get injured if they are reaching over their head and flipping upside down.

  • Orbee

  • Goughnuts - they make an extremely durable line of toys

  • Fluffy or soft toys - some dogs really love these but be careful as many are easy for a dog to tear apart and can be unsafe if the dog eats parts of the toy. There are a few that are more durable than others, barkbox, Tuffy, and Kong offers a more durable line of soft toys as well. There are some dogs who really love to have soft toys to carry around and play fetch with who don't shred them.

As with all toys make sure it meets your dog's needs and discard any toys showing signs of wear. Be cautious when leaving toys in crates or without supervision, especially if you have a dog that loves to destroy toys!
